Silver Spring, MD – MobiLaps LLC received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II award from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to develop a system that will provide a new revenue stream and increase profits for rural broadband ISPs, and improve the commercial viability and the business case for providing broadband service in rural areas, in turn increasing the availability of affordable broadband service in rural America.
The proposed patent-pending system aims to introduce a new revenue stream for rural broadband ISPs, by empowering the ISP to become a differentiated portal that facilitates commerce and interaction within a rural community. The system leverages two unique advantages inherent to the ISP. The first is the ISP’s knowledge of the subscriber’s physical location, allowing it to customize the portal service to the subscriber’s geography. The second is the ISP’s control of the gateway, through which the subscriber accesses the Internet
“We’re much honored that the USDA is extending our SBIR award into Phase II. This is a clear indication of the importance and viability of our proposed solution within the rural community” said Dr. Hisham Kassab, President & CEO of Mobilaps. The USDA SBIR program makes competitively awarded grants to qualified small businesses to support quality, advanced concepts research related to important scientific problems and opportunities in agriculture that could lead to significant public benefit if successful.
